How to Become a Volunteer

First – Attend a one-and-one-half hour Volunteer Information Session at the Humane Society. Dates of these monthly meeting are listed on the “Notices” part of this Web Site, (or you can call the Director of Volunteer Programs, Susie Stetson, at 719-473-1741 ext. 121). At this meeting, you will receive:A short historical look at the Society; a brief explanation of our services, structure, mission, funding process and philosophies; An overview of current volunteer opportunities; and a tour of the new facility.

Second – Complete a “Volunteer Information Form” and interview, one-on-one, with the Director of Volunteer Programs to discuss your personal goals and determine the most suitable volunteer assignment for you.

Third – Attend a brief Volunteer Orientation and Training Session designed to prepare you for your job as a volunteer.

Age Requirements
The minimum age for a few jobs is 12 years old. More jobs are available to 14-18 year-olds. All volunteers between the ages of 12 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult of his or her own choosing. The minimum age for each job is listed with the job description on the Volunteer Opportunities page.
